Guitar Chords For Songs
One of the earliest concepts introduced in guitar lessons online is guitar chords for songs. A large amount of songs which feature a guitar rely heavily on these guitar chords, and many other songs can be changed into easy guitar songs simply by focusing on these chords. While the more obvious chord based music usually falls under more acoustic guitar songs, there are a wide variety of rock, funk, punk, and even metal songs which are heavily guitar focused. Usually these are softer songs, but that isn’t even necessarily the case, as seen in many Clash, T-Rex, and Ramones songs.
Open and Bar Chords
One thing to bear in mind when learning songs is the kind of chords being used. In most cases, guitarists will either exclusively use one type of the other. The range varies from guitarist to guitarist, some will use one type in every song they do, but some will only use them for particular song parts. This is especially true with songs that might focus on guitar chords for songs that are more difficult to initially learn or songs where most of the focus is on another instrument. The advantage of these types of compositions over note for note transcription is that these don’t require an equal level of ability to the original guitarist, but still recognizably are the song.
Often these also take into account the guitarist doesn’t have a full band backing them up and creates a song that can be played by one guitarist (with minimal additional musicians), uses techniques that most guitarists already have learned, and still are recognizably the song. These are especially good for singers that wish to back up their vocals with a guitar, but don’t want to focus heavily learning all the little nuances the actual guitarist performs.
What to Focus on Initially
The question of where a guitarist should focus their efforts initially to start playing songs should be an early one to consider. There will be some guitarists where guitar chords are not specifically the first area to focus on, but for most this is one of the major areas to learn.
Acoustic guitar lessons, in particular, focus in this area initially, for good reason considering most acoustic guitar styles are heavily chord based. Which area for the exact guitar chords for songs can vary from genre to genre and guitarist to guitarist, however, most easy guitar songs are focused on the basic open chords, making this the ideal place to start with guitar lessons online.
