It's no great secret that most every musician, regardless of their style, has a great appreciation for Jazz. The complexity of this American art form makes it one of the hardest for the average musician to conquer...till now.
Our Jazz Impov Lessons Vol. 1 are designed to de-mystify the elements of jazz in such a way, that even if you never played Jazz before, you'll not only understand advanced concepts of jazz but have them ingrained into your musical conscience. By the time you complete the first series of these Jazz Improv Lessons you'll be able to apply what you have learned into any style you of music you play, be it Blues, Country, Rock, Pop, Funk or even World Music.
These lessons are taught by acclaimed and accredited composer (and adventurous improviser) Landon Knoblock. Landon was recognized with honors in Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Miami, yet still explains these lessons in a down-to-earth manner that is not only appealing and personable, but also extremely understandable to students with just an intermediate level of music comprehension.
Much more than mere lessons, this is a comprehensive method to learn the principles rules of Jazz Improvisation so you'll be able to "comp" changes like the pros do with leading tones and chord substitutions. We'll explore the rules of harmony and how (and why) chords are extended with additional notes, and how those notes seek resolution. And, of course, we'll teach you how to resolve them.
With these lessons fresh in your mind, we'll show you the tricks how to use that knowledge replacing standard triads with a more complexly structured chord (or series of chords) that will infuse vibrancy into your playing.
Then we'll take a look at scales and modes, and exactly where to apply them so when it's your turn to solo you'll pull it off like you had been playing the smoky bars of New Orleans and polishing your chops for your entire life. These jazz improv lessons will even teach you the licks to use to get you out of the tight spots and get you back on track in a musical way when you find yourself adrift in a solo.
While these are musically advanced concepts, we have designed them to be used by the intermediate player regardless of what instrument they play. So whether you play guitar, bass, keyboard, horns or even chromatic harmonica, these Jazz improv lessons will set you up with the basic principles and more to have you playing like a pro. And like all of our lessons at Easy Music Lessons, no music reading ability is required.
This is the equivalent of more than a year's worth of music instruction all for less than price of a single private music lesson, a bargain that would be hard to find anywhere else.
We don't make Jazz simple; we just make Jazz easier for you to learn.

Jazz Improv Vol. 1

A-list studio musician, recording artist and music educator Landon Knoblock guides you through this series of lessons and systematically breaks down this perplexing style into easily digestible lessons to help you reach the level you have always wanted to play.

Starting with one of the most standard chord changes in Jazz, the II - V - I, our Jazz improv lessons explore harmonic concepts that will help you smoothly, yet intriguingly, play single note lines that transition through these chords.
Our Jazz Improv Lessons Vol. 1 will also take an extensive look at the extended versions of these chords and all of the possible alterations that lie within. You'll learn exactly how to apply chords with these modified extensions and how to appropriately resolve them.
We'll also show you examples using single note lines against these altered chords that highlight the melodic complexity and leading tonality that is inherent to the use of these altered scale tones.
As with all of are lessons, these Jazz Improv Concept lessons are structured so each lesson builds off of the one previously before it, so each of these seemingly difficult concepts is made easily comprehendible. This is perhaps the biggest difference between Easy Music Lesson's quality music instruction and those free online lessons that you find on the internet: everything you learn will be given in a context that will allow you to apply it to your everyday playing.
In continuing review of the dominate chord, will take a look how to use the melodic minor scale in your solos that will encompass the altered tones and some of the more interesting triads that lay within, as well the arpeggios that can be applied against the dominate.
These jazz improv lessons also investigate the diminished dominant as other way to modify the V in the II - V - I progression. We will explain how this chord relates to the diminished scale, the chord's spelling and how both the chord and the scale repeat and can be used in their different inversions.
Passing Tones: We'll show you how to apply passing tones in different diatonic scales that will inflect almost vocal-like character to your single note lines, as use so effectively in Be Bop and Swing. Our Jazz lessons also show you how passing tones can be used as a tool to move between scales, connect lines and connect alterations. These "in-between" notes can take your solos to new heights and make every note a meaningful option of expression.
We'll explore altering the fifth scale tone of the dominate for a more dramatic leading tone voicing, as well as the use of tritone substitutions.
Our Jazz improv lessons Vol. 1 will also show you shapes for improvisation, four notes arpeggios, simple yet highly effective triads and even show you how to spice up a simple blues I - IV - V progression to become something extraordinary. We'll examine the relationship between scales, chords and arpeggios and how you can facilitate them into your improvisation, and more!
We will even show you the tricks most teachers would milk years of lessons out of you before they got around to showing you, such a pattern shapes that you can use that will help you land on your feet impressively when soloing against intense quick-changing chord progressions.
